Presentation about participation by CAOP in cooperation with CGOA

Willemstad, 6 of December 2019 – On Thursday 5 of December 2019, ’Centrum Arbeidsverhoudingen Overheidspersoneel’ (CAOP) in cooperation with ’Centraal Georganiseerd Overleg in Ambtenarenzaken’ (CGOA) made a presentation about employee participation. This dynamic and interactive workshop was facilitated by Marco Sikkel and Alphons de Lange, both working at the CAOP and for many years intensively involved with the development of employee participation in Curaçao among other places.

This presentation is the first of planned meetings with the theme ‘Meaningful work’. Work becomes among others things more meaningful if employees can influence their work environment, work organization and the decision making of the organization where they work. The CAOP connects independent science with management and practice, and has as its goal to give a contribution to a community in which people can work meaningfully.

The session was attended by governmental labor unions, the members of the Social and Economic Council, and public servants from various ministries and others interested.
The employees’ participation deals with the way employees can be involved in the decision making in their organization. During this presentation the CAOP paid attention to the different forms of employee participation, namely direct, indirect and external participation.

With regard to the target group, namely the government, the CAOP wanted to explore if there is a need for indirect participation mainly. This could also be a first step towards meaningful work. In the upcoming meetings this will be further discussed.

The President of the CGOA, Mr. Prof. dr. eng. Valdemar Marcha concluded the meeting saying that the presentation was extremely informative, in which there was a dialogue that could be seen as a first step towards real and effective employee participation.
